Frequently Asked Questions About Westland Therapy

Questions regarding your insurance coverage should be directed towards your extended health care provider. Most clients find that their sessions are covered, or partially covered, however, every plan is different so coverage can not be guaranteed unless you speak directly with your insurance provider.

Each practitioner at Westland has their own credentials for submission. The three main designations one would submit for insurance coverage are:

RCC (Registered Clinical Counsellor) with the BCACC (BC Association of Clinical Counsellors)

CCC (Canadian Certified Counsellor) with the CCPA (Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association)

RSW (Registered Social Worker) with the BCCSW (BC College of Social Workers)

Please contact your practitioner directly for their membership number and governing body if it is not clearly stated on their profile. This is what you would submit to your extended healthcare provider.
No, you do not. You can book directly with a therapist on their personal “about me” page.
Fees vary by practitioner and are payable at the beginning of each appointment by E-transfer, cash, Visa, and Mastercard.

Fees range from:

$160 - $200 per 50-minute or 60-minute session

$240 - $270 per 80-minute or 90-minute session

*All fees include taxes.
Most Westland practitioners require at least 24 hours' notice for all cancelled appointments. Please email or call your therapist directly if you know you are unable to make your appointment. If less than 24 hours' notice is given, the full fee will be charged for the missed session.
Absolutely not. Sex Therapy is just like any other counselling domain, it requires strict ethical rules with 100% no tolerance for becoming physically involved or touching a client in any way. Sex Therapy is simply counselling with a specialization in Human Sexuality. Just as other counsellors may specialize in anxiety, trauma, or addiction.
What you share with your therapist in the counselling setting is strictly confidential, with a few exceptions.

These exceptions are:

-Your practitioner is legally required to tell the Ministry of Children and Families if they learn of a child being abused.

-Your practitioner is legally required to warn anyone whose life is in danger.

-Your practitioner is legally required to warn the authorities if a client has a plan to kill him/herself and is at serious risk of carrying out this plan.

-Your practitioner is legally required to comply with a subpoena to appear in court or to provide personal notes to a court.
No, unfortunately not. However, many of our counsellors are pre-approved providers for the most widely used insurance companies, therefore, the submission of your receipt for reimbursement can be a quick process that is often completed online through your client portal.
Absolutely! Virtual therapy is very similar to traditional therapy. Instead of meeting in our office, we connect through our secure video platform. The sessions are conducted just like in-person meetings, but many clients find them more convenient since they remove the time constraints of travelling.
Consistency is key to achieving authentic change, which is why we recommend weekly or bi-weekly sessions with your individual provider. We are committed to supporting our clients throughout their journey, so as your needs evolve, we’ll adjust the frequency of your sessions accordingly.
